Bad Freakin' Luck

So last night was the season premier of SNL with host Megan Fox. The show was average at best with every sketch involving Fox having something to do with her being pretty, as opposed to being funny. The episode would have never been noticed if it wasn't for an unfortunate slip.

Jenny Slate, one of two new cast members, dropped the F-bomb during a sketch. You could tell Slate realized what she had done by the look on her face. However, Kristin Wigg was extremely professional and continued the sketch like it never happened and they were able to finish it without any other problems.

After spreading all over Twitter, rumors about Slate being fired came up. I have to say, I would be extremely disappointed in Lorne Michaels if he decided to let her go. They need to attack this in true SNL fashion and make fun of it right away. This is great publicity for a lackluster premiere and it's going to be on every talk show on TV and radio. They have the opportunity this Thursday with Weekend Update. I hope they take advantage of it.

Phil Hogan

This past Tuesday I MC'd at the Comedy Zone in Lake Norman. MCing sucks big time by the way. The audience could care less about you. After the show I read a quote by Steve Martin. "Be so good they can't ignore you." I need to keep that in mind.

Anyway, the real professional that night was the headliner, Phil Hogan. He can play the hell out of a guitar. Check him out on MySpace. http://www.myspace.com/philhogancomedy

Stand Up Graduation Show

Finally! I've got some video from my stand up graduation show. This was at the Wine-Up in NoDa near downtown Charlotte. Everybody did an awesome job. The gentleman introducing me is Johnny Millwater. A great stand-up comedian and my teacher for the advanced class I'm taking right now.

Matt Davis

I performed with this savvy gentleman last night at the Lake Norman Comedy Zone. He's a real professional. He was suffering from jet lag after flying back from The Bahamas and he was sick and he still did a great show. One year, he was on the road for 50 weeks. That's insane!

What a Basterd!

"What is a post about this movie doing on a comedy blog?" you might be asking yourself. Well, I had heard Inglorious Basterds was a funny movie in Bill Maher's interview with Brad Pitt but I had no idea that there a parts in this movie that are downright hilarious. Quentin Tarantino is a brilliant writer and I believe it will go down as one of his greatest films. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, SEE IT!

I know Brad Pitt is the biggest name and he's what will draw a lot of people to see the movie. That said, Christolph Waltz steals the show. His portrayal of Colonel Hans Landa is quite possibly, and I'm trying not to exaggerate, one of THE BEST pieces of acting you will ever see. EVER. I read Quentin Tarantino was worried he had "written an unplayable part." I understand why and so will you if you see it. Don't be surprised to see a gold statue in those hands come next Spring.

Mutzie

Sorry about not putting this up sooner. This is Mutzie. I saw him for the second time the other week. He's probably the funniest stand-up comedian you've never heard of. Check out some of his stuff on YouTube but know they really don't do his act justice. He's one of the most entertaining live comedians you'll see. Mutzie is so quick witted, the only way I can think to describe it is improve-stand-up. Make sure you see one of his shows if you get the chance. He'll have you laughing so hard, you'll choke, it happened to me both times.

Stand-Up Graduation Show

Ted from my comedy class made this sweeeeeet poster for our graduation show. Well done, Ted. It's next Wednesday at the Wine-Up in NoDa. It was supposed to be next Thursday at the Lake Norman Comedy Zone but Dustin Diamond is performing then. We got moved to a smaller venue because of freakin' Screech from Saved by the Bell. FML
